Allies are more important than unproven temporary economic success.
Russia is going to seek out a profitable deal, as they cannot continue this war forever, with the US and its allies aiding Ukraine. Because of this, it makes sense that the began talks with the US and Ukraine to end the war. Russia wants to know that they will be able to do business alike ore-war after the war ends or else they have no incentive to end the war. The negotiations about oil after the war ends would be beneficial to the United States and Russia.
