Polls and Markets Clash Over Senate Majority
Control of the U.S. Senate is at stake in the upcoming November 3, 2026, midterm elections, with Republicans currently holding a 53-47 majority. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take control, and the final days of the campaign (October 30-31, 2026) are marked by unexpected battlegrounds, a legal dispute in Alaska, and intensified campaign efforts by President Trump.

Surveys have to be aware of blind spots like bias in who doesn’t answer, potential changes in opinions between the day of the survey and the day of the election, whether or not someone is likely to vote, etc. But we are confident in the models. A CNN analysis recently showed that polls are much more accurate for midterm elections in recent cycles than presidential elections, so that contributes to our confidence.
People that are register in a party, when it comes to polls they just go with the flow of party narrative. Markets is people’s bets and they won’t bet money on something they don’t really believe.
No source is ever truly unbiased, but betting markets have a much larger bias than normal scientifically taken polls, as stated in the previously cited study. As I said, often those using betting markets are not religious, and influenced by whichever side in the betting market is already winning. While we don’t reject the data from betting markets wholesale, we should recognize when bias is present.
