Brazil's Supreme Court upholds confiscation of Bolsonaro's passport

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the 2022 Brazilian presidential election, defeating incumbent Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro initially challenged the results but later withdrew his request to annul them. In February 2024, Bolsonaro was ordered to surrender his passports as part of a federal police investigation into an alleged coup attempt to keep him in power.

  • Prove? No. There is almost no way to completely prove that an election had no fraud, because even if you did have a full recount with tremendous transparency, people could still find parts of the process to be suspicious of. Even a rigged election would require extensive investigations into data logs and sources in order to prove that each part of the process was legitimate. But Bolsonaro being in power would’ve made it easier for him to rig the elections in his favor, so the simple fact that he lost is a good indication that there is no rigging.

  • The election was fair several independent organizations have conducted a series of investigations and our evidence concludes this was a fair election

  • In districts where Lula had most support the TSE shows no votes for Flavio this is real data not opinion

  • Brazil is a country that has frequently been scourged by political corruption (as I, the player of this game, know after living there for two years), where the elite and politicians frequently rob the citizens through taxes, poor business decisions, and a lack of citizens rights. This is done either through legal or illegal means, from what I saw when I lived there. This does not mean the election was necessarily rigged, but it does mean that further investigation is required to certify its results.

  • Material changes to the way we vote were were made during the day of the most important election of our time. Changes the voting hours cannot be made that rashly and have such a big impact on the final result of the election. There are too many irregularities in the voting to think that it’s just a coincidence or that there was no wrongdoing so we must investigate

  • We wanted to ensure Bolsonaro didnt leave the country while the investigation is underway. There is a two fold reason for this. We need to make sure he’s available for questioning and also if the review indicates criminal activity on his part we want to make sure he doesn’t evade justice
