Trump reportedly blocked Israeli strike on Iran ahead of midterms

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly instructed Israel's defense establishment to prepare a large-scale bombing campaign against Iran for the weekend of October 10, 2026. The operation was subsequently postponed after US President Donald Trump opposed renewed fighting before the US midterm elections on November 3, 2026. Planned targets included Iranian nuclear facilities, regime sites, and civilian infrastructure.

  • America has been deterring Iran the past year, to little benefit to the American people. Furthermore, Americans are against this war, and as an American leader, it is important to listen to the voice of the people. This means pushing for peace with Iran, as opposed to being Israel’s attack dog. We have our own intelligence reports, and if we saw a credible threat from Iran, we would attack, but for now pushing for peace is the best bet to secure safety for Israel, Iran, and America.

  • The war had three distinct goals: To end the Iranian nuclear program, to cut Iranian support for proxy forces in the wider region, and to give the Iranian people a fighting chance against their government. We did not significantly set them back in their nuclear programs and there has been no popular uprising in Iran. We have, however, significantly decoupled Iran and Hezbollah, and the Iranian-backed militias in Iraq have limited cooperating with Iran. This is evidence that the only achievable goals have already been achieved. Now, diplomacy must resume, but because of the chaos of the bombing, it is not actually clear who in Iran we must negotiate with. It is time to let the dust settle so that negotiation is even possible.

  • Israel and Iran have been fighting with each other since before I was born. They have constantly been retaliating and one-upping each other for decades. To the extent that America has influence, we should be encouraging peace and otherwise staying out of it.

  • This is not sacrificing Israel’s security because we’ve not had any evidence that Iran is still building nukes. In fact, there were claims that we destroyed the nuclear facilities and it would take many years for Iran to be able to get enough enriched uranium to even have a nuke now. Instead, we need to focus on coming to an agreement with Iran and pulling out of a war that we have no reason in being a part of.

  • By forcing them to not attack first it gives us a chance to see who the real problem is. If Iran attacks them they are free to defend themselves but they can’t attack first then cry victim when Iran inevitably retaliates like any sovereign nation would
