  • The federal government should use conditional grants or restrict federal funding from Minnesota if Walz does not impose harsher policies insofar as the audits of potential fraud cases. If this solution had been implemented in 2019, when there were clear red flags for fraud in Medicaid and Feeding our Future programs, the state of Minnesota would receive federal support contingent on their ability to check for fraud, and punish those involved accordingly. Federal financial support would be restricted otherwise, forcing Walz to cut other spending, which would likely lower his public approval, or cave and deal with the fraud. The federal government could also use ICE to remove the 10% of Somalis that are not citizens, and could increase restrictions on immigration from Somalia, and as a whole.

  • The federal government has a critical role to play in this investigation since it involved federal funding. Per 18 ISC S666, theft or bribery concerning programs that are federally funded - even in part - is a federal crime. To the extent that the judicial system considers these claims worthy of investigation, we will be participating in the investigations alongside Minnesotan authorities. But we need to be careful to not demonize Somalis unnecessarily. People want a scapegoat, and they do not deserve that as a community. The one who was convicted of conducting $250 million in fraud was Aimee Bock, who is not Somali. And she has been sentenced to 500 months in prison. We need to be careful to not stir up public opinion before the courts do their work.

  • It has been shown repeatedly that Minnesota has a fraud and crime problem, and politicians like Tim Walz are making things work by refusing to address it, and by picking fights with the federal government to score political points with his base. The fact is that this is an issue that Trump seems focused on, so agents will likely be sent either way, since in the past he often does not just let an issue like this go. By refusing cooperation Walz is therefore allowing the agents to run amok. At least if he worked with the agents, he would be afforded some measure of control, being able to prevent tragedies like have occurred and making the process more orderly and lawful, helping the actual innocent Americans who live in Minnesota.
