Even though Putin is a dictator, he can’t run a nation of starving and impoverished people. Nearly all sources point to Russia’s financial crisis due to this war. If the revenue from this deal is directed to the war and NOT to his people’s relief, Putin will doom his country financially, and the benefit to the war most likely will be negligible, given how poorly Putin has shown recently to execute military operations. That however is not the importance behind this deal. This deal seeks to alleviate the financial burden the American people are facing by providing new, cheaper gas to them, lessening prices on travel, purchasing, and most other aspects of life. As president, it is my duty to put the American people first, and though this is a difficult decision, because it does pressure Ukraine, any leader would and should be forced to do what is best for their people.
Bypassing import bans would be the ideal scenario, because oil would directly enter the US for refining, manufacturing oil-based products, and for fuel. The justification is that the import of oil would most directly improve the prices American citizens see. The 300,000 tons, or around 2 million barrels, of oil is no small number, and would relieve the shipping industry which relies on cheap fuel to transport goods, causing the propagation of oil prices into goods prices. The ban on oil imports from Russia is purely to put pressure on Russia in the Ukraine war. This war is not the directly responsibility of the US, the American people are. If the US was not involved in the Iran war, maybe the humanitarian cause would be enough to enforce the ban. However, American people are struggling with higher prices, so much so that even the chance of an oil deal with Russia, the expectation of change, reduced oil prices.
There is Public outrage and protests for absolutely everything. There was public outrage when the World Cup came to America yet everyone had a good time and foreigners got to see America for what it is not what they see on the news. The benefit of cheaper prices on most things far outweigh the cost of public protests and public outrage. With cheaper diesel that means people are paying less for diesel which means transportation is cheaper which means groceries are cheaper because it costs less to transport them. The benefit of cheaper prices is a great benefit for everyone in the United States.
There’s no promise that a deal with Russia would “lower prices now”. Many of the top economists interviewed by Reuters and others ye guardian believe that a deal with Russia would do little to help Americans
Our refineries have been doing without Russian oil since 2022. We don’t need to be worried about them all of a sudden losing a supply chain.
Cheaper fuel ultimately encourages trucks to travel greater distances , export greater amounts of commodities to neighbouring countries thus our GDP will rise significantly
You answered your own question there bozo. I’m gonna start calling you bozo the clown. If we nationalize the oil industry to become self sufficient then we would be acting decisively alone as you yourself are saying.
I am not funding the war I’m saving Americans money for the future. The price of diesel is ridiculous so this should help the everyday American ease the pockets.
