Federal agents raid Rep. Ilhan Omar's home over immigration probe

On October 12, 2026, federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) searched the Washington D.C. home of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar under a judicially authorized warrant. The search is reportedly part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into allegations involving decades-old immigration documents. The raid occurred just 22 days before the midterm elections, leading Democrats to accuse the Trump administration of targeting a political opponent, while Omar denies wrongdoing and vows not to be silenced.

  • No. Because there are actual crimes being committed and investigated. If this was a witch hunt with trumped up charges I’d say sure. But you can’t commit a crime and then hide behind your political position to avoid prosecution

  • Yes. You can’t omit information or outright lie on citizenship and immigration paperwork. If you do that you will be de-naturalized

  • We must act according to our laws, while giving the public all the information we can for them to be informed of who is in this office

  • We are appointing a special counsel to evaluate whether or not this investigation was politically motivated. If it was, then we will move for legal action against those who are violating their office by interfering with an election within the 60 day window and otherwise using their power for illegal purposes. They will be interviewing DOJ officials to determine what led up to this raid - how legitimate the concern is, how long they have known about it, and who gave the order to perform the raid at this time specifically.

  • Of course. The reason we have a justice department and courts is to prevent wrongdoing from occurring. Anyone can challenge operations done here freely, and it is encouraged for all parties to cooperate. If this investigation continues, and Omar or other justices choose not to appeal or push back against the actions, it most likely shows a tacit admission or no wrongdoing (and therefore stirring up partisan controversy is solely to attack the opposing administration). Thus far, there is no evidence of political persecution or wrongdoing by the Justice department or Trump administration, other than potential motives, but motives do not denote a crime.

  • It isn’t a legal requirement but it can be considered to be done in bad faith given the timing of it

  • There are risks associated with the investigation, for example, Omar could've entered the country legally and the result of the investigation is Omar losing the election unfairly. However, there is substantial evidence that she has fraudulently entered the country illegally, including discrepancies in her relationship with her brother, her birth year (which would effect the requirement documentation for naturalization), and the paperwork for her father. If this evidence is not taken seriously, and the investigation stopped, then there would be a significant chance that Omar is free even with reasonable doubt of legal entry, and this would support the statement that officials are immune, more resistant rather, to scrutiny and investigation. This would set a precedent that officials could commit fraud, and could be criminals, and still hold a position. I believe that the risk of Omar committing fraud upon entering the country, and being able to lead the US people with a government positi
