  • No. There are already too many incidents of Ai agents hacking government departments, examples of which have happened in Australia and the USA. It demonstrates a lack of control that could easily get out of hand.

  • Because America is a benefactor of Taiwan exports. Discussing trade resolves the issue of Taiwan because it tells china we will not allow our ally and one of our top trade associates to be hurt or conquered by china. This Taiwan will be safe because America is strong enough to pressure china with tariffs and other trade sanctions should they make the decision to invade Taiwan. So clearly discussing trade as our number one priority is the best option.

  • I don’t believe that they are mutually exclusive, that’s why I’m talking to Xi Jinping so that we both can conduct the AI advancements in our countries more safely, if our opponents in this AI race also go safely then we don’t have to race them in order to win and we can all be safe

  • By focusing on trade with china, we can achieve multiple goals. By lowering the tariffs we have on china and Chinese goods, American companies can buy Chinese goods for less, and pass on those savings to the consumer in the form of lower prices, in order to compete in the market. Second, by having china trade with us more, they will buy more American goods, which, obviously, puts more money into the US economy. Finally, it also helps strengthen our relationship with china and potentially pave the way for future deals, and discussions on other important topics (AI, Taiwan, etc.). The bottom line is that trade is the foundation for countries to succeed, and buy prioritizing that, we can eventually work to improve the discussion around all other topics as well.

  • With the Paris climate accords, it was fairly self evident that other technologies existed that would allow for safe, economical, and environmentally-friendly energy production. The same alternative pathway does not exist for AI development. So it is different. We can’t just all agree to not develop AI at all. That would go nowhere. But we should be able to agree on reasonable ethical or practical standards that will ensure AI is never fully outside of human control, at the very least.

  • The reason domestic industries lobby so hard is that they want to keep higher margins, making more money. Even if tariffs are lowered with china, they will still be able to compete, they will just be forced to take lower margins, which will benefit American consumers

  • If we are able to keep relations friendly with China we can count on them to provide the needed rare earths in the short term while we focus on implementing strategy and policy that will make the US independent and self sufficient in the long term

  • It’s a facade and a show of force by China in an attempt to save face. They conduct these military drills rather consistently so we are not concerned by it. I made it extremely clear to Xi that any attempt on Taiwan now or in the future will be met by US involvement in Taiwans behalf
